1980’s Apple prototypes show that the company was ahead of its time even back then

Over the past decade, Apple has become synonymous with cutting edge design features, from its iMac G4 all-in-one computer from 2002 to its latest iteration of the iPhone and iPad, but it looks like the fundamental basis of its design driven products dates back to the 1980’s.

A new book from Harmut Esslinger showcases the design story behind Apple Computers and has over 350 pictures of prototypes and various designs throughout the history of the company.

Some of the picture include prototypes of tablet devices, mobile phones and laptops decades before the technology was there to implement them. For anyone who wants a copy of the book it’s called Keep it Simple: The Early Design Years of Apple and is available on Amazon.

Here are some samples of the prototypes in the book.
