Ocean Colour Scene & Dead Fish

Ocean Colour Scene where amazing last night, the new album track really lit the room up, but as soon as The Riverboat Song came on the roof came off those first few notes made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. I’m glad I broke into my rolling papers to make a few rollies before hand, as I gave a few to the bloke next to me who was of similar age to me but he was from Bradford. There were a few young ones that where smoking pot with blunts, you could smell it everywhere lol. We both managed to not get caught though by the security blokes who were quite ruthless with spotting smokers.

I did a 20% water change at the weekend, and it’s really improved the clarity, but I have now another issue in that on Sunday evening my Bi Colour Blennie was dead on the sand bed. Having been out all day I can’t pin down when he died, but what does concern me is that 2 rock dwelling fish have both died in a very close space of time. I’m going to put a trap in tonight to see if i can catch a mantis shrimp or a vicious crab.

I had a good birthday, well apart from the dead fish. This week will be hectic with 3 nights of pool and then a meal out on Friday night.

Liam Gallagher Brit Awards, Oh How I Cried

I was been thinking last night and I’m really hoping that there’ll be some tour t shirts at the gig on Sunday and I don’t want any cheap t shirts I want some high quality t shirt printing on fruit of the loom t shirts.

I’ve been watching most of the Mr Bean Episodes that ITV are re showing, they are timeless. They still make me laugh today even as an adult, I thought they where hilarious as a kid and always wanted to watch them when they were repeated over the Christmas period.

I saw a few clips of the 2010 Brit awards and be far the best was Liam Gallagher accepting the award for Best Album in 30 years. He threw the mic into the crowd and generally looked of his head, albeit i did find it hilarious.

Where playing pool tonight at a town pub which is strange for us as we don’t normally allow town pubs in but this one is the exception. We usually stick to country pubs which suit us fine. The most distant pub for me is probably around 40 minutes away but I only have to go there once a season so it isn’t too bad. My form for the past 2 weeks has been a bit lack lustre to say the least, but in my defence the breaks have gone really well for the other person.

This Week

It appears Richard Ashcroft has a new Band called United Nations of Sound. Well hopefully he’ll be doing some gigs when the album gets released. I’ve seen him live twice before, once when he was doing the Solo scene and pushing his Keys to the world album, he also did some Verve Hits. Then I was lucky enough to see Verve again in Manchester Central. This was the site of the Old Manchester Railway Station and it’s an amazing place for gigs.

I’m really hyped up about the Ocean Colour scene gig the new album Magic carpet days, but it won’t beat the golden oldies. Hopefully the venue will be packed to the rafters.

This week’s already going quickly with me spending a few hours a night playing online poker with my friends.

The weekend will be hectic as it’s my birthday on Sunday and obviously the trip to Bradford in the afternoon.

Looking forward to tomorrow though since I have pool in the evening, I could really do with winning this week as i have lost my last two games.

The Raconteurs

Catching up on musical reccomendations which I’ve had stacking up for more than a year now – don’t seem to have time to dive in to albums of late.

Anyhow, “Consolers of the lonely” by The Raconteurs – masterpiece! It’s been around for donkey’s and I heard a few people rave about it, entirely with good cause it turns out. An absolutely rollicking blues-and-booze fueled slice of americana.

Even sillier than my letting it gather dust on the CD shelf for months is my overall impression after the first few listens, which was “This is great but this guy is trying waaaay too hard to sound like Jack Black”. A friend pointed out in the measured and patronizing tones used on mental defectives that Jack Black is in fact a founding member of The Ranconteurs, as anyone who’s even slightly in touch would know :)

Mitch Mitchell RIP

Mitch Mitchell, gone but not forgottenMitch Mitchell, most famous as the drummer in The Jimi Hendrix Experience, passed away in an Oregon hotel room last night.

Mitchell began his career as a child (well, teenage) actor, and went on to beat the skins for a number of Jazz combos before joining Hendrix in 1966.

Supreme showman Hendrix understandably got most of the attention in those days, but Jimi’s sister Janie sums up Mitch’s contribution: “His role in shaping the sound of the Jimi Hendrix Experience cannot be underestimated”.

RIP dude.
