Movie Time

The wife and I haven’t been to the cinema in a while. Time and being bothered is what has stopped us really and well, nothing has really caught my eye in a while. Some of our friends suggested going to see 12 Years a Slave at our local picture house, and although I’m not big on historical type films, it has had a lot of press. Not sure if it’s good press, but a lot for sure. It’s also down to win a number of Oscars and it’s already one a few awards this year.

Anyway here’s a trailer for it:

It’s got that benedict Cumberlandbackwhatever whose name no one can say or gets wrong. It does have quite a stellar cast and as I noticed Michael Kenneth Williams who plays Chalky White in Boardwalk Empire and Omar in The Wire (two of my fave TV shows) is in it. I think he’s a great actor so should be good to see him in this. I’m not sure how it will play out, I have seen Django Unchained and that was brill albeit a little gory but that’s the least you expect from Tarantino. I think this film will be hard hitting so might be interesting.

Anyway I was pondering my all-time favourite movies, and was Googling some classics so I could make sure my DVD collection was up to date, when I came across this interesting piece on Most Iconic door moments from film. Up top was the Shining, its defiantly the most memorable. The shining is one of those films which although feels like it drags on forever you only remember certain bits. The door scene being one of them. Notting Hill came second, however I don’t remember the door in that, in fact I don’t remember any of that film apart from Hugh Grant being foppish, after the wife subjected me to it. Third Place went to Home Alone, I like this movie, the part where a pizza is delivered and a voice speaks through the door “keep the change, you filthy animal”.

Anyway here is the list:

  1. ‘Here’s Johnny!’ door, The Shining
  2. William Thacker’s house with the blue door, Notting Hill
  3. ‘Keep the change you filthy animal’ pizza delivery door scene, Home Alone
  4. Mark declaring his love for Juliette with signs at door, Love Actually
  5. Dorothy entering the land of Oz, Wizard of Oz
  6. Bag End’s green front door, Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
  7. Going through wardrobe, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe
  8. Matilda being put into the chokey, Matilda
  9. Snake door, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
  10. Maximus opening door to Elysium, Gladiator
