Another day another dime saved

The better half got me thinking the other day when I was been dragged around the shops, that not only was this a major waste of my time obviously but also how much money highstreet retailers actually make on clothing. I mean think about it most of the items we wear everyday have been made for pennies by probably some poor little shoeless kid in India for nothing or some random plebe t shirt printing bland and inane designs. There never really seems to be any thought either going into most of the clothing either and when I think about it why should I be led by shops who don’t know me with what I wear.

So you all know about the stellar job Adlogo did on my pool team shirts, well I thought I’d get my artistic side working and come up with designs of my own that I can have printed up, not only on t-shirts, but maybe hoodies too. It will be great for me because of my dislike of conforming to the masses and plus I can source more ethically made pieces to have printed, so I don’t feel guilty about the poor shoeless Indian kid and in the end save myself some money too.

Not good sportsmanship

Well last night’s Champions League match between Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan was marred by the disgraceful behaviour of Milan’s Gennaro Gattuso, which ruined Tottenham’s win against Milan in the first leg match.

After the match at the San Siro, Gattuso was caught on camera head-butting Spurs assistant manager Joe Jordan, also during the match Gattuso also squared up to former Milan player Jordan on the touchline and pushed him in the face. However the incident during the match went un-punished by officials. It’s thought that Gattuso is likely to be hit with a lengthy European ban for his aggressive behaviour.

However I don’t think a ban is enough, after all he will still be paid, but the rest of us in the real world would not be paid if we had to take a leave of absence so why should football players be any different. He instead should be made to pay a fine which should be paid to campaigns to wipe out bullying and racism in football that would be in my opinion more useful. Also to point if you head-butted someone in the street I would presume you would be arrested and possibly charged with assault, however no mention of that. Now I know you may say it’s different in sport but this was after time was called and it is most defiantly not good sportsmanship to behave this way and neither does it set a good example that you can head butt someone and basically get away with it.

Ok rant over, hopefully the next meeting of these two clubs won’t be marred by bad behaviour.

Sad tip at the weekend

Well my weekend was slightly wasted to say the least and slightly upsetting. I went to the horse racing at Newbury where, if you seen or read the news that two horses sadly died. I’ve been to a couple of horse races before where a horse has fallen badly and had to be put down. But Saturday’s events were pretty bad and distressing mainly because at the time you didn’t really have much idea what happened or how.

Fenix Two and Marching Song where been led around the parade ring and where then seen rearing up and screaming before dropping to the ground. I wasn’t watching as I was course side ready for the race but I did see replays later on and it weren’t too pleasing to see.

I’d been looking forward to this meet for weeks with it been the first meet of the year for me and because it was bit of a trip for me too as Newbury is a little further away from home than most races I go to. I’d got all packed up the night before with roillies from my new rolling paper stash which I’ve only recently opened, a nice list of tips for the day, sandwiches packed with a few cans of coke for the trip and the car full of diesel.

It looks like there’s been big commotion over the whole Newbury thing and it will be interesting to see what the outcome is going to be whether its health and safety breach or what, the only good thing maybe is that there were no riders on the horses at the time.

Looking forward to Valentines

For those who know me well you can probably detect an air of sarcasm in the title, I don’t really revel in Valentine’s Day and certainly don’t partake in any commercial aspect of it. This is not because as some would suspect that I am a lonely, bitter old man who has been scorned by many a women, or a lazy husband/boyfriend who can’t be bothered to buy a gift let alone look for a card for my loved one. But in fact my dislike of Valentines Day comes from a general belief that if you love someone, you shouldn’t need a day to show/tell them that you do because you should tell/show every day.

Some of the tat that is sold for Valentine’s Day I doubt would be greatly received by anyone. I mean who really needs a tacky teddy with a giant heart on or a silly mug or such like to know they are loved and if you do well sadly your relationship may not be what you thought it was! However the amount of this rubbish that is sold shows what a consumer led nation that we have become that we have to by something inane and useless to show someone we loved them, whatever happened to the days where we told that person everyday that we loved them and that was enough?

Okay rant over back to reality, for another year!

Helping out a friend

I had a bit of spare time this week which was lucky, as one of my good friends called wanting some help with his business. As we are in a recession or just emerging from one, whatever, I don’t know, many people are finding it hard to survive if they run their own company/business especially with banks not wanting to lend a hand. So my friend needs to improve his advertising /marketing to get more work.

Being in a trade in the past you relied on word of mouth and positive feedback to get work, however because it’s so competitive now, with cheaper foreign workers he’s finding it hard to get work. So after having a look at where he advertises his services I realised he needs to be more up to date and online, which is where Infoserve come in. They can help you set up a website and get you key listings on Yahoo which all help to get you out there and ultimately help you get the work. After checking out their services my friend is arranging with Infoserve to get his business into the 21st Century and successfully online where consumers can find him.

More furore on our TV screens

After the Andy Gray/Richard Keys debacle on Sky Sports you would have thought TV execs would have been watchful over the content of their TV shows to make sure no one was been unduly victimised or any comments made would cause someone somewhere to cause offence. Well obviously the producers at Top Gear were not sent the memo when they aired the episode of Top Gear last week where Mexicans were characterised Mexicans as “lazy and feckless”, by the smallest presenter Richard Hammond.

Not surprisingly with an audience of millions around the world, Top Gear incensed the Mexican Ambassador to the UK and many people in Mexico and the show has been criticised for being, “outrageous, vulgar and full of inexcusable insults”. Now although the BBC apologised for offending people they did not actually apologise for the actual joke stating:” jokes based on national stereotyping were part of British national humour.” Which to be fair is true, so where do we draw the line? I mean over the years us British have been mocked for various things and tend not to take offence, when statements are made in jest.

Popular team t-shirts in the pool league

It seems that the t-shirts I had printed up for my pool team have gone down really well with other teams in our league. The captains have been asking me where I get them done, naturally I directed them to Adlogo because of the great customer service I have had from there. However I did realise after I told them all I probably could have made a quick buck myself from this.

Instead I could have offered to organise shirts for the other teams, then used the t shirt printing services of Adlogo myself to design and print the other team t-shirts, selling them on at a slight profit!

Oh well never mind at least in future I know about the services and could use them to make me some extra cash.

Record signings for the January transfer window

After much speculation Fernando Torres left Liverpool for Chelsea this week for the almighty sum of £50 million, yeas you heard me right £50 million and although that may seem a lot to us mere, mortals who won’t seen anything as close to that in our working lives in comparison to other players he’s worth it.

However I do find it odd that Liverpool then went on to spend £35 million for the injured Andy Carol from Newcastle, after spending £22.8 million for Luis Suarez  who I believe is worth more than Carroll, who has only played in the Premier League this season and played 8 minutes internationally and rather controversially beats up women. Also adding that Suarez scored last night in his first game for Liverpool while Carroll sat on nursing a thigh injury sustained doing god know what!

However as I am not a Liverpool fan I can’t say that I care that much who Liverpool sign and how much they spend I just find it ridicules the prices now, I mean how much higher can it go?

Football, a man’s sport?

The main thing that’s really got my back up this week is the fact that Andy Gray has been shafted by Sky, what he said was his own opinion of having a women doing a linesman’s jobs, he’s pretty old as well so he might be stuck in his way, maybe if you asked a younger pundit then you might of got a different opinion.

Then the whole Jamie Redknapp thing came to light, after some more digging up.

Anyway I was looking on Chargrilled a famous on line t shirt printing, and they’ve got a couple of great cock up t shirts like a picture of Andy Gray and then Gray crossed out and the word tit replacing it lol. I’m not sure why other online t shirt printers such as t shirt print, Adlogo don’t go down a similar route.

New year, new me

Some of my friends have noted that I don’t actually seem to have much of a life other than playing my Xbox, watching TV, trying not to kill my fish and occasionally turning up for pool, so I have decided that 2011 is going to be the year where I take up a new hobby, that doesn’t make me seem boring.

The hard part of taking up a new hobby is deciding what to choose, there is a wide range hobbies that people take up some quite normal and some that are weird and wonderful. I have chosen a selection of 10 that I could see myself doing, these are:

1. Fishing
2. Collecting
3. Home brewing
4. Model making
5. Live action role playing
6. UFO spotting
7. Playing an instrument
8. Car restoration
9. Sports
10. Chess

I think some of these hobbies may actually make me seem more interesting, one or two may make me seem a bit weird. Role playing for example is a great way to extend my game playing into the real world however I don’t think I could quite bring myself to spend my free time LARP(ing) around!

One hobby which I seem to be most drawn to is home brewing and I think I may take this up, to ease the cost of buying beer, plus as it’s not a hobby that takes up a huge amount of time I could also fit something else in too!
