Weather woes, F1 and Football

Well I was due to have a BBQ on Sunday with it been a bank holiday on Monday, but the weather really put me off getting one organised so I never bothered ringing anyone yet people still bothered turning up so it ended up been a take away night. I didn’t get any keeps this time either which was bit of a let-down. We got loads of booze in from the local rhyme and booze which was pretty cheap for branded stuff.

One of my mates saw my little collection of cannabis seeds and he was pretty impressed and he ended up taking a few, I can guess what he’s going to with them but he’s a bit dodgy like that anyway so I’ll no doubt hear from him in a few weeks when he’s got a massive plant or in jail.

The F1 was pretty good this week I thought that Eddie Jordan was a bit harsh on Whitmarsh from McLaren but that’s eddies own opinion I missed the crash as I was busy with my Rizla rolling machine, so I had to catch it on the replay and I’d say it wasn’t Lewis’s fault really.

Leeds have been pretty shocking this season with some pretty poor results. I think that the main point is letting Kasper go at the beginning of the season. Hopefully we can get our heads down now and get some good results in otherwise we’ll be back in Div 1.

The joke that is Health and Safety

A list came out in the news the other day showing some of the things that have been banned in the name of health and safety. For us of an older generation a lot of things that we wouldn’t have thought twice at doing now seem to have been banned and other activities would probably leave parents running to stop their children doing the same!

It does really say a lot, although Health and Safety has reduced a lot of deaths and accidents it has been taken to the extreme by some people/organisations. Case in point below:

Butlins- banning dodgem cars from bumping to prevent whiplash and broken bones.

Footballs – Some schools will only allow footballs made from sponge so they don’t hurt you when they hit you!

Sack races – Traditional sports day game banned just in case kids fall and twist their ankles.

Flying Kites – Banned on beaches in Bridlington so no one can be hit by one.

Poppy pins – Pins stopped being given out for Royal British Legion Poppies in case someone pricks themselves.

Now to me these just seem stupid to me, bumper care with no bumping? No pins for poppies, isn’t it about time we realised we have to look after our own personal safety? I know there needs to be some legislation but some of these mentioned above are just plain stupid.

Event tragedy, nice gifts and some reminiscing

Well it’s been bit of a crap weekend really, if you’ve been watching the news then you’ll know what I mean. Jon Egging pilot of Number 4 a Red Arrows pilot died and a wing walker in the USA has also fallen to his death. I’m sure that these people know the risks but it’s not something anyone likes to hear, even worse though for those people watching the events unfold. Other sports such as F1 have seen a great improvement in safety since the death of Senna so no doubt aerobatics may be next to have an overhaul of safety. For now though the Red Arrows will not be flying until a full investigation has taken place.

At the weekend I’ll have a toke on the Eclipse Vape-2O Vaporizer for those guys who have lost their lives doing what they love.

A highlight of my weekend was that I have been sent some cannabis seeds from an unknown source however they were postmarked from Amsterdam so no doubt it’s one of my good friends who go out there a lot just don’t know which one.  . I’m really tempted to try and germinate it to see what happens but apparently it will smell really bad so it might need to go into the kitchen where the window is always open.

There was a great program on BBC 4 over the weekend on the 60’s and 70’s F1 racing which I thought was really interesting, it focused on the safety of the drivers themselves and how after numerous deaths they started to look at their own safety whilst driving.

Women and DIY

Apparently according to a news report three quarters of women think they are as good as men at DIY. Now this shocked me as I quite like to think I am a DIY master and who my other half comes to, to do odd jobs around the home and garden because she can’t do them, or wont. The report showed that eighty-two per cent are comfortable painting, 79 per cent changing light bulbs and 77 per cent ripping wallpaper.

Personally I think however that most women would rather look for someone on cityvisitor.co.uk to find a decorator than do the job themselves. I know for a fact that if I was not around that is what my other half would do. However the survey of 2,000 women for B&Q showed that of the 60 per cent who are in a relationship, more than a third said they do more DIY around the house than their partner. I have a sneaky suspicion that they may be fibbing a bit or they are all with this new generation of useless men who can’t even change a fuse so have no choice but to do it themselves.

Buying cards that can be personalised

It’s one of my friends 60th birthday coming up soon, I’ve known this guy for years and we spend a lot of time down the pub together putting the world to rights. To be fair he is a big drinker and has lived life to the full, so many of us are surprised he has lasted this long. Joking aside I thought it would be good to get him a personalised card, you know from one of those places advertised on TV.

It’s actually quite a hard task finding the right card I wish I could just create one from scratch with my own ideas, like I do with my t shirt printing designs. It’s much more fun!

On the plus side a new pool season will be starting soon and we are having a change around with our team, a couple of guys are going so we have some new young blood to come in. This means I will have to be calling on the services of Adlogo again once I have nickname confirmation.

London Riots

Wow man, I just can’t believe what happened over the weekend in London, the damage caused by mindless thugs is shocking. I still can’t believe the police can’t control them. I watched the news last night as it showed the thugs going in for a third night. These kids must be on some shit to burn and destroy where they live basically because they think they are owed something.

I feel sorry for the peoples livelihoods who have been destroyed because of this, in an area where these ‘youths’ complain of no jobs and no prospects for their lives they just go and make it worse. A lot of the business that were targeted were family run ones these may not be able to open up again especially in these hard financial times which means a loss of jobs. Even chain stores may think twice about re-opening their insurance costs will go sky high now. So basically these mindless kids have shot themselves in the foot.

I believe that the only thing that will stop these kids is force, rubber bullet and water cannons, which were successful in Northern Ireland. There are no deterrents with the law; lax sentencing etc. so physical force may be the only thing to scare them off.

It has been looking like it could spread across the country with groups popping up in Manchester and Birmingham, which is why force is needed before it escalates and the whole of the ‘youth’ in the UK joins in. Although if any kids try this shit on me I will use force especially if they try to rob me, you have been warned……..

F1 takes a break – Nooooooooooooooo!

Well I can’t believe that it’s going to be at least 3 weeks before the next F1 race at Spa. I know it gives the drivers and team a break which must be nice for them, but it leaves me with little sport to watch on TV, unless I am lucky enough to find a Championship game. I did catch some of the Leeds game, not in 3D though, couldn’t watch much of it though as the performance was poor. I was hoping they would start with a bang, but it looks like they didn’t really start at all.

I didn’t really do much over the weekend, I had a couple of friends come over that have just been on holiday, and they were saying that you could openly buy cannabis seeds off the rack from corner shops ha-ha lucky buggers. I mean over here it’s really only headshops that sell them. May I add for visual effect only i.e. you’re not meant to plant as it’s against the law, and if you do Judge Dredd will come round and blow you to bits mores the shame.

Next weekend I have nothing planned as of yet so it would be nice to have a sit down on my own and have an hour or so with my Eclipse Vape-2O Vaporizer I still have a few bits and bobs left of some herbals so I can smoke them before I need to get another order placed or speak to a nice friend that might be able to supply me with some other smoking herb. Sometimes it’s just nice to sit and chill and get away from all the crap in the world.

F1 Sunday

I know many people were slightly annoyed this week with the news that F1 coverage will be shared between Sky and the BBC next season, for me I don’t mind as I have Sky TV with a full sports packages so I will still be able to enjoy both, however I know a lot of people don’t have Sky. I think it’s a shame that full coverage won’t be shown on free to air TV, by my recollection I thought it had to be.

I was glad to see on Sunday that Button won the Hungarian Grand Prix, especially as it was his 200th Grand Prix race, however the race did get off to a bit of a slow start which saw me shouting at the TV. I know a lot of the stuff they do now is to ensure the safety of the drivers, but I just don’t think it makes it very exciting. On the plus side though Lewis Hamilton tends to make a race exciting by his random decisions that tend to be more on the dangerous side but they don’t tend to get him too far.

There are only eight races left till the end of the season and so far Vettel has quite a good lead, he is 100 points ahead of button, his closes rival is Webber on a 149 points.

On Friday I read that next year the Turkish Grand Prix will be dropped so not to take the number of races over 20, next season will see the inaugural United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. They have also pencilled in the Bahrain Grand Prix for later in the year, however I would have suggested cancelling that rather than Turkey. I know Turkey has poorer attendance however planning a race in a country that has such bad civil unrest seems silly to me as I doubt much will be sorted by next year.

Anyway I will look forward to the next race which is the Belgian Grand Prix, 26-28 August.

Beer sales drop (shocker)

I read this week that beer sales at both pub’s and supermarkets have fallen sharply in recent months. According to the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) this is due to higher taxes. Now it doesn’t take an idiot to know that this would happen, when announcements were made about increased taxes on alcohol everyone I know at least said they would buy less because it was getting too expensive.

Taxes have added 10 pence to the price of beer last summer and since then many people have been squeezed financially, myself included, which means we do without or consume less. The problem with the decrease in sales is that there will also be a decrease in tax revenue too, because although the amount of tax collected on each unit sold increased, overall the numbers sold have dropped so the there is a good change the extra tax increases will have failed to bring in the estimated revenue the government wanted.

Recently the same happened with fuel revenue, many people cut down using their cars because high prices which include at least 70% tax meant they couldn’t afford it. The government then lost a lot of revenue here because of low sales.

I personally don’t go to pubs anymore, was put off by the smoking ban and now high prices, I feel like I have much more freedom at home and can relax much more without feeling like I am being hounded for having a couple of bevvies! The main losers that I feel sorry for are the staff, at the pubs and breweries that may lose their jobs; don’t feel sorry for the government as any person could have told them what would happen if they kept increasing taxes.

Weekend thoughts……

I wonder how much the new Xbox would retail at would it be £500 or would it be more I can’t even remember how much the 360 got released at. I’ll probably wait a year or so for the 2nd release of the console to come out before purchasing.

Well someone who shall remain nameless has broken my Roor pipe it’s been broken by the Dyson. The coffee table got knocked and it rolled onto the floor unseen by a certain ladies eyes.

It’s nice to see that there is another F1 race this weekend in Hungary; I wonder if there’ll be any hookah bars stacked to the rafters with shisha pipes?

I’m wondering if Vettel will be back to his normal fast driving self for this race. I thought it was a pretty parade style race but a little interesting.
