Having fun with my creative side

Okay, so last month I mentioned that I would be trying out some at home t shirt printing, rather than using an internet supplier, for a change. I looked into all the various methods which include heat transfer and screen printing and decided that heat transfer would be easiest.

The basic heat transfer method is to use iron on transfers, patterns and designs can be bought from craft shops for you to iron on at home or you can design your own and print onto transfer paper to iron on. The designs I found to buy online weren’t really what I was looking for so instead I designed my own, printed it onto the transfer paper and carefully cut out my design.  I then ironed it onto my t-shirt and let it cool, I must admit it did look good when it was first done but I did notice after a couple of washes it started to fade easily.

Fading has not been a problem with the t-shirts I got printed by Adlogo so I think I can cross out the iron on method as it’s not as effective as I liked and more time consuming than doing all online!

A Bank Holiday Weekend to Remember

This weekend we had an extended break, on Friday we had the much hyped about Royal Wedding so was kindly given a day off work to enjoy it, if you so wished and Monday was of course May day. I decided to watch the Royal Wedding as well as have a BBQ with the family and enjoy the nice spring time weather. It was great to have everyone together to watch the wedding, although I’m not that bothered, it’s a great event to enjoy. Personally I would have rather seen the after party televised rather than the ceremony!

The rest of the weekend was spent shopping, cleaning and most importantly drinking leaving Monday to relax and recuperate. After the excitement of the Royal Wedding the weekend was nicely rounded off in my opinion with the news that US Navy Seals had located and killed Osama Bin Laden and dumped, sorry buried, his body at sea as well as one of his sons too. Although there are conspiracy theorists who say he was already dead, I like to believe the news and that America had finally got the world’s most wanted man. All in all it made the weekend feel thoroughly patriotic.

Wonder if the next bank holiday at the end of this month will be just as exciting?

Time off to play

Well another bank holiday which is giving me / us a 4 day weekend which i really do like and im not complaining well not yet, because work is always super busy the week before and after. Also today i noticed that the bin men seem to be taking the entire week off so there’s rubbish piled up in the streets awaiting collection.

I’m staying in close vicinity to home since everyone will be flocked to the seaside and other honey pots for bank holiday travellers even the local shopping centre place seems to get in undated and that’s covered up so god knows why people don’t go there when it’s raining.

If i save enough money this weekend i’ll be able to justify the money that i spent on my jazzy digital scales a few weeks back as i ended up opting for the most expensive ones that they did Whoops.

The smoking pipes that i got my father went down a treat and he’s even put his old pipe to one side and started using the new ones that i got him, in honesty his old pipe had seen better days but he didn’t really want to give it up or it didn’t seem like it.

I’ll fill you in after the weekend as to wheter i managed to say at home or see me give in and go to the beer garden

Online business guides

About ten years or so ago if I required the services of a plumber or an electrician I would look it up in the good old Yellow Pages or Thomson Local, or even ask a mate if they knew anyone who could do the job. Now however that has all changed. Now though like many things in life they answer can be found on the internet, looking for a beauty salon, florist or a different takeaway? Don’t worry in a couple of seconds online you can find one, well the number or website for one. This is down to online business guides like the Yahoo!Local which is powered by Infoserve.

Businesses are advertised and targeted to your local area, all in one place which makes the whole process so much quicker. Not only is that but information available for anywhere so you are not just contained to local services. Infoserve provides businesses with direct exposure on one of the world’s most used search engines, with advertising available 24 hours a day seven days a week, 365 days a year. You can also have an optional link to your own company website from Yahoo!Local.

Birthday gifts

Well it’s my old man’s birthday on Sunday so although this post is a little late I have actually already got his present, as I’m sat here looking at it, I’ve bought him 2 smoking pipes I’ve gone for a slightly modern looking one which I’m hoping he is going to use otherwise I might nab it back in a few months if its left on the side like most things are with him.

The Other pipe is a Sherlock Holmes pipe which he’ll probably really like and only ever use that one. As it’s more his regular pipe style, but you never know he might start to use his modern pipe.

It nice to only have a week break between the GP’s as we are now in china. I think its starts around 9 on Saturday morning so it’s not too bad to get up and watch. I’m hoping for good results for Lotus this weekend given the nice practise pace. Given that Nick doesn’t break another front nose.

Grand National

You all know how much of a huge fan of horse racing I am so I was sad to see the events unfold on Saturdays Grand National at Aintree, during the race two horses were killed and during another race at Aintree one of the jockeys were seriously injured. Unfortunately the Grand National has one of the worst records for fatalities of horses with around 30 dying in the past 11 years and the course is also notoriously bad.

There are now call for it to be changed, or made safer, the RSPCA is to take part in a review of the course, with the charity’s equine consultant, David Muir meeting with representative of the British Horse Racing Authority (BHA). Now I’m not really an expert on the course but do like the odd flutter on the Grand National and I always find it upsetting when some horses die, however I’m not sure how they can change the race without taking away the qualities that attract thousands of people every year to watch it. Plus I doubt they would actually go and ban it completely, but you never know.

DIY t-shirt printing

In the past I have sung the praises of online t shirt printing, for my t shirt printing needs, for pool club, presents and for band t-shirts. So I thought that I may look into how you can do t-shirt printing at home, because it is a really easy way to customise clothing and make a statement.

For the pieces I have needed in the past such as our pool t-shirts, I found Adlogo’s services to be excellent, however now I fancy having a mess around myself at home. I will probably stick with Adlogo for bulk orders as they provide the best value for money, but for other things I fancy I will do myself as I want to take up t-shirt printing as a hobby.

There are numerous methods available for at home t-shirt printing, so some research is required to find out what will be best for me, such as heat transfer, hand painting and if I’m confident even screen printing at home. The latter however is the hardest and the most expensive, so to start with I will look at the other two options.

I will let you know once I have decided on a method how it goes and how successful I am, or not, ha!

Foul mouthed footballers cont…..

Further to my post the other day about Wayne Rooney’s outburst during the Man U, West Ham game I am glad to see he has been given a two-game ban by the FA for using offensive, insulting and/or abusing language. I do hope that this sets a precedent with other footballers too, not just an attack on Rooney in general, as I don’t think he is alone in using foul language on the pitch, whether it’s in celebration or not.

Next season the FA are launching an initiative to make footballers and managers respect the referees and lines men and hopeful stop the abuse that ensures most games against decisions that some may feel is unfair. I think for the amount footballers get paid now they should be able to have some self control and curtail the foul language and I know this is hard, after all in the heat of the moment etc but for a couple hundred thousand a week keeping on your best behaviour for your club and fans, who pay your wages is not too much to ask is it?

Anyway, this week I am looking forward to enjoying all the Champions League games that are on, should be an interesting ride, much more than the prem league!

Foul mouthed footballers

I’m sick of seeing Wayne Rooney getting away with bad behaviour on the pitch, this week he swore directly at the camera and then trying to get away with it by releasing a statement  saying “sorry and I really regret it” after the match. I personally think they should make a show out of him and ban him for a few games and dock his wages, young kids idolise him so the last thing I want is my nephews shouting fuck off because Wayne Rooney can do it.

It’s not even the first time that he’s done it so they should throw the book at him. He claims to have done it in the heat of the moment, but really come on we aren’t stupid why would you should it when you’ve just scored, what a pleb, grow up. I also think it should be done to other footballers too, any deterrent to make them clean up the game should be welcomed, and then any money from fines can be redirected to school youth teams. You have a win, win then!

Any way after my short rant again about Man U, I’ve decided after much deliberation to treat myself to a new set of digital scales because mine are a few years old now and are looking pretty battered oh and cracked in one corner. Checking online I found  you can get a decent set for around £25 so it’s no major spend like most things I find now, when I want to buy something I have to check online for the best deal or for any special offers to save myself some money. Times of austerity and all!

Plus I’m looking forward Malaysia, there’s mentions again that it’s going to be four pit stops for the race, but they said that for Melbourne and a few cars got away with 2 stops and one a Sauber I think, only did one stop.

Start of 2011 Formula 1 season

Well I was up early on Sunday morning to watch the 1st race of the new 2011 Formula 1 season. In honesty I was expecting slightly more from the DRS system combined with KER’s but the big names are now saying it might take more time to get it all right and working more efficiently.

I was really impressed by Vitaly Petrov, last year in his debut year season he was a bit lack lustre but impressed everyone with his impressive performance of the last race of the season managing to hold off Alonso.  It could be a one off where the car was suited to the Albert Park Circuit. Only time will tell as to whether Vitaly can keep on with the good performances.

It was an early start so I had my digital scales to hand as I knew I wouldn’t be very good at guessing the weight of my tobacco when I’m half asleep.
